E. L. Katz's action horror hits theaters on September 27.
Azrael

Scream queen Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, The Babysitter, Scream VI)  adds another horror to her storied filmography with Azrael, an apocalyptic action horror from director E.L. Katz that gets a brand new trailer today courtesy of IFC Films.

IFC Films will release Azrael in theaters on September 27, with a Shudder release to follow at a later date.

In Azrael, which was directed rom an original script by Simon Barrett (The Guest, You’re Next, Godzilla x Kong):

In a world in which no one speaks, a mysterious, devout community hunts down a young woman named Azrael (Weaving) who has escaped their imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, she is to be sacrificed to pacify an evil which resides deep within the surrounding wilderness – but Azrael will stop at nothing to ensure her own freedom and survival. From the seeds of this gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation, comes an immersive, real-time, action horror tale from the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.

Alongside Weaving, Azrael stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Femme), Vic Carmen Sonne (Winter Brothers), Katariina Unt (Undergods) and Sebastian Bull Sarning (Sons).

Shudder’s Emily Gotto had this to say of acquiring Azrael for the streamer:

“Azrael is a chilling, heart pounding experience that will grab at your senses start to finish […] We are thrilled to work with these bold and innovative filmmakers to bring E.L. Katz’s distinct vision to theaters, and to Shudder, later this year.”

And from Katz:

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Azrael released by our good friends at Shudder/IFC. Their support of wild, uncompromising genre films is unparalleled.”

If you're heading to London's FrightFest later this week you can catch Azrael on Sunday, August 25.

Keep your eyes peeled for Azrael playing near you this fall, and we’ll bring you any further updates as they roll in.
