Maybe it’s just me, but I always associate the arrival of summer with vampires coming out of hiding. (Blame The Lost Boys for that one.) Either way, yet another new brood has arrived with the trailer for Bleeding, which arrives on Screambox early next month.

The vampire flick is written, directed, and produced by Andrew Bell, and stars John R. Howley, Jasper Jones, and Tori Wong. The film’s synopsis is as follows:

Bleeding follows Eric, a 17-year-old grieving the death of his brother. When his cousin Sean, the hot-shot son of an alcoholic cop, gets pulled into the lucrative, deadly world of using and selling Blood, Eric will do whatever it takes to save him from the same fate that swallowed his brother whole.

With a debt to a vicious dealer and no way to pay it back, Eric and Sean break into an empty house and find a sleeping girl locked inside. What seems like an answer to their prayers brings new danger, a link to their past, and revelations that will test the bonds of blood and friendship.

The trailer gives a quick sneak peek into the dark world that Eric finds himself in — and interestingly, focuses more on the drugs angle than the vampires that will inevitably chase after him by the end of the film. It begs the question: which is worse, overdose or vampirism?

“This is a story and issue that’s important to me and our team. These experiences shaped who we are,” said Bell in a statement. “We set out to make something raw, and powerful, and honest. We wanted to tell you a story about vampires, but show that the real monsters were there all along, preying on the young, feeding off the people that trusted them most.”

Bleeding premieres on Screambox on June 10. Check out the trailer below:
