Having traded the wilds of Scotland for something a bit more rugged, Graham McTavish is joining Flying Banzai’s latest horror film. The Atlanta-based company has just begun production on Bloodletting, based on the Western horror novel of the same name by J.R. Curtis, and Outlander star McTavish joins the cast as Buchanan, “a grizzled gun-for-hire tormented by his past.”
Co-directed by Scott B. Hansen and Ryan Shelor, the latter in his directorial debut, Bloodletting follows “the harrowing journey of three frontiersmen who set out to seek aid at a desolate Army fort after their handcart company becomes stranded and stricken by disease. Harassed by bandits and a mysterious native figure, with one companion gravely injured, they are stalked by a dark, primal force. As the fort reveals itself to be a cursed and maddening prison, fear and hunger twist the men into something unrecognizable—something monstrous.”
Principal photography is expected to begin on the film this summer in Saskatoon, Canada, with Hansen and Shelor executive producing alongside Cayman Eby. This comes ahead of the release of Flying Banzai’s last film, Devour, in the fall, which was also directed by Hansen, which features vampires, cannibals, and cults all rolled into one.
“Bloodletting is the gritty visceral story we’ve been waiting to tell,” said Shelor. “It’s a nightmare wrapped in history, driven by characters on the edge of humanity. And with someone like Graham McTavish leading the charge, this becomes something truly special.”
No release date has been set for Bloodletting. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
