With Sally Hawkins having left the Paddington franchise behind, one would think her first move wouldn’t be to star in a horror film from the directors behind one of the most terrifying films of the last five years, but A24’s here to prove that idea wrong. They’ve just dropped the trailer for Bring Her Back, the newest film from Danny and Michael Philippou, and Hawkins definitely isn’t playing a sweet and loving mother this time.
It’s quite the opposite, as the trailer proves: Hawkins plays a foster mother hiding dark secrets from a young brother and sister, who find themselves caught in a trap against their will. While it’s not clear exactly what the film’s plot is yet, the trailer promises sacrifice, death, and a whole hell of a lot more for audiences, seemingly amping up the dread that made Talk to Me so popular.
The Philippou Brothers burst onto the scene with their 2023 debut Talk to Me, which featured Sophie Wilde as a teenager possessed by a dark force after a childish game goes wrong. The film was a breakaway success, earning over $90 million on a budget of only $4.5 million, becoming A24’s highest-earning horror film and earning itself a sequel, which is currently in development.
Bring Her Back is one of several horror films on A24’s docket for 2025, which also includes Opus, starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, as well as Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.
Bring Her Back hits theaters this summer. Check out the new trailer and first poster below:
