A24 is keeping things mostly a secret for their upcoming film from the Philippou Brothers, but it looks like Bring Her Back isn’t pulling any of its punches even when we can’t quite tell what it’s about. The distributor has just released a new trailer for the film, which stars Sally Hawkins and hits theaters in May, and she’s one sadistic witch, scaring her new foster children as she attempts a ritual that defies the laws of life and death.
It’s tough to tell exactly what Hawkins’ frenetic foster mum is setting out to do, but the title is a decent hint. It wouldn’t be a film from the Philippou Brothers if it didn’t involve trying to break through the boundary between the living and the dead, and it looks like they’re taking that idea one step further in Bring Her Back, as Hawkins ropes her son into a strange ritual, cut through with video camera footage that would terrify any found footage fan.
The Philippou Brothers burst onto the scene with their 2023 debut Talk to Me, which featured Sophie Wilde as a teenager possessed by a dark force after a childish game goes wrong. The film was a breakaway success, earning over $90 million on a budget of only $4.5 million, becoming A24’s highest-earning horror film and earning itself a sequel, which is currently in development.
Bring Her Back is one of several horror films on A24’s docket for 2025, which also includes the recent releases Opus, starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. They’ve also got a handful of dramas on the docket, including Warfare, Sorry Baby, and Marty Supreme.
Bring Her Back premieres in theaters on May 30. Check out the new trailer below:
