For those of you who loved the In Search of Darkness trilogy covering all the best scares of the 1980s, we have good news: the team behind the trilogy is gearing up to explore the next decade of horror with In Search of Darkness 1990-1994, available for pre-order now, and which FANGORIA is excited to debut an exclusive clip from.

As the title makes obvious, the documentary will cover the making of the iconic horror films of the early 1990s, including (but not limited to) Candyman, Tremors, Ghostwatch, Stephen King’s IT, and Army of Darkness, which the below clip focuses on, featuring ted Raimi (brother of director Sam Raimi) discussing his work with star Bruce Campbell.

As with the other installments of In Search of Darkness, the new early ‘90s edition will feature interviews and commentary from some of the most recognizable faces in the genres, including (deep breath) John Carpenter, Heather Langenkamp, Bernard Rose, Charlie Band, Mike Flanagan, Akela Cooper, Alex Winter, Tom Savini, Kane Hodder, Don Mancini, Screaming Mad George, Robert Kurtzman, Mick Garris, Ted Nicolaou, Adam Marcus, Stephen Volk, Brian Yuzna, Clancy Brown, Shinya Tsukamoto, Gilbert Adler, and more.

The film is directed by former entertainment journalist David Weiner, who also directed the ‘80s edition of In Search of Darkness as well as In Search of Tomorrow, and had plenty to say about the release of the film:

“As a massive film fan in the '90s who was also starting my professional career in the entertainment industry, I felt like it was my civic duty to see every horror film on the big screen and consume as many straight-to-video gems as I could find, housed on the horror section shelves at my local mom-and-pop video store. Three decades later, while many of the titles had slipped my mind, others were burned into my brain (and retinas!) with ad-nauseum repeat viewings.

The opportunity to make my new documentary In Search of Darkness: 1990-1994 provided me with the perfect excuse to dive back into this oft-maligned ‘lost' decade of horror, and to rediscover the absolute wealth of wonderful, inventive filmmaking it provided. From major studio entries to the explosion of gateway horror on TV to innovative indie films and the grittiest DIY/backyard triumphs, I was reminded that there is so much greatness to rediscover, to share and celebrate, and to recontextualize — from just the first half of the decade alone!

In Search of Darkness: 1990-1994 is packed with a brand-new line-up of ‘90s horror legends and contemporary voices (see if you can spot your fave Fango fiends Phil Nobile, Jr. and Angel Melanson!), alongside several returning ‘80s horror favorites, telling all-new tales from the era. It's the ultimate curation of horror entertainment from around the globe, and I hope you will once again join us with an extra-large tub of popcorn and pen & paper to take copious notes.”

The pre-sale for In Search of Darkness 1990-1994 is open now through Halloween night, October 31. Fans can pre-order the documentary here, and you can check out the exclusive clip below:
