Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House, Gerald's Game) and Lou Taylor Pucci (Evil Dead, Touch Me) are set to star in Winthrop, an upcoming horror film based on the cult podcast Knifepoint Horror and the fan-favorite episode “The Lockbox” by writer, creator, and narrator Soren Narnia.
Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism, Prey for the Devil) directs from a script by Emmy-winning playwright Justin Yoffe, with Winthrop following:
…a woman (Gugino) who puts her life on the line to protect her troubled, enigmatic cousin, Winthrop (Pucci), who has been targeted and hunted by a powerful supernatural force.
Per Deadline, Kearie Peak will produce for Peak Pictures, alongside Capstone Studios. AURA Entertainment will handle the Winthrop‘s U.S. theatrical release, with MGM+ handle its subsequent streaming and linear debut.
Here's what Peak had to say in a statement:
“Winthrop captures the eerie dread that makes ‘Knifepoint Horror’ such a success. Carla Gugino is a perfect fit for the film, bringing a rare intensity and subtlety that aligns perfectly with the silent horror of Winthrop. Beneath the supernatural tension, the film explores how generational trauma festers and twists over time. It’s horror with weight, and it stays with you.”
First launched in 2010, Knifepoint Horror is an anthology series that tells standalone horror stories, having reached over 10 million downloads over all platforms.
Look out for more on Winthrop as we get it.
