Japanese genre master Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse) returns with suspense thriller Cloud, with a new trailer dropping today ahead of the film's U.S. theatrical run via Sideshow and Janus Films.
Cloud open in New York on July 18, followed by Los Angeles on July 25, before kicking off a nationwide rollout.
Starring Masaki Suda, Kotone Furukawa and Daiken Okudaira and produced by Japan's Nikkatsu Corporation, Cloud follows Yoshii (Soda), an ambitious, yet directionless, young factory worker from Tokyo, who side-hustles in black market reselling, cheating both buyers and sellers:
After swindling his way into loads of cash, he becomes slowly disconnected to humanity, moving out of the city, shunning his girlfriend, and hiring a devoted assistant. But after a series of mysterious, sinister incidents occur, he begins to suspect his former victims could be plotting the ultimate revenge. A master of carefully simmering tension to a bloody crescendo, Kurosawa delivers a searing portrait of digital greed and vengeance.
Following its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival and U.S. premiere at Fantastic Fest, Cloud was selected as Japan's entry for best international film for this year's Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Cloud was one of three Kurosawa efforts released last year, alongside the existentially terrifying short Chime (one of FANGORIA's Best Of 2024), and a French-language remake of his 1998 crime drama Serpent's Path.
