Courteney Cox has finally confirmed her return for Scream 7, with Variety confirming today that the star will once again play Gale Weathers in the seventh installment of the slasher series, hitting theaters on February 27, 2026.
Cox joins joins Neve Campbell, returning to her role as final girl Sidney Prescott, Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Anna Camp and Mason Gooding, who will be returning to his role as Core Four member Chad Meeks-Martin.
Patrick Dempsey is also said to be circling a return to his role as Sidney's husband Mark Kincaid.
Speaking with Variety, Cox expressed her excitement at returning for a Scream 7 that's being directed by Scream scribe Kevin Williamson and written by Guy Busick:
“You can’t get better than that choice […] It’s going to be fun.”
Cox has played no-nonsense fan-favorite journalist Gale Weathers in every Scream film since the 1996 original, making her the only actress to appear in six consecutive films of a horror franchise.
Plot details for Scream 7 are still tightly under wraps, other than the detail that the sequel will be a “Sidney Prescott story“, as opposed to the previous two franchise entries, Scream and Scream VI, which followed Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega's Carpenter sisters.
So with a Sidney and Gale return confirmed, now all we need is Matthew Lillard back, right? Stay tuned for more on Scream 7 as we get it.
