Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Life of Chuck) and Cristin Milioti (Black Mirror) are reportedly being eyed to star in A24's upcoming sci-fi horror pic, The Backrooms, according to Deadline.
Based on the viral series of found-footage videos from teen filmmaker and VFX artist Kane Parsons, which are themselves based on a 4chan creepypasta, The Backrooms follows a young filmmaker’s fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space, which may or may not be home to otherworldly beings. The first video in the series, titled “The Backrooms (Found Footage)”, currently has 66million views (check it out below) since its release three years ago.
Parsons will direct from a script by Roberto Patino, with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps, along with horror master James Wan and Michael Clear for Atomic Monster, and Patino. Per Deadline, Alayna Glasthal is overseeing for Atomic Monster, with Judson Scott executive producing for the company alongside White.
No word yet on who Ejiofor and Milioti will play in the pic, or if they are actually confirmed – Deadline note that reps for A24 declined to comment. Needless to say, we'll be watching this one with close interest. If you haven't watched Parsons' original short, check it out below – it really is very creepy.
