David Lynch, visionary director of Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, Inland Empire and so much more, has sadly passed away at the age of 78.

His death has been confirmed by his family on his official Facebook account, saying “There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.' It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.”

Following his directorial debut in 1977 with the dark and experimental Eraserhead, Lynch would quickly make a name for himself as one of America's most recognizable filmmakers, even coining an entire adjective, Lynchian, to describe work of an unsettling, surrealistic tone.

Airing from 1990 to 1991, Lynch's drama series Twin Peaks became a cultural touchstone, influencing everything from the Alan Wake games to The Sopranos. His final work, Twin Peaks: The Return aired in 2017 to monumental acclaim.

Lynch's contributions to cinema cannot be overstated. All of us at FANGORIA would like to extend our sincere condolences to his loved ones.
