Scream king and FANGORIA cover star Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky) and Jordana Brewster (The Faculty, Fast & Furious franchise) have joined Josh Ruben's horror rom-com Heart Eyes, Deadline have reported exclusively today.
Sawa and Brewster join Scream‘s Mason Gooding, Cruel Summer‘s Olivia Holt and Gigi Zumbado (Bride Hard) in the Spyglass slasher, written by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) and Michael Kennedy (Freaky, It’s a Wonderful Knife).
Heart Eyes follows:
…a pair of co-workers in Seattle who are pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day. When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes, they’re mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. The duo are forced to spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.
Currently in production in New Zealand, Heart Eyes is produced by Landon and Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks (M3gan, Totally Killer), with Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Chris Stone serving as EPs with Murphy.
Heart Eyes joins Scream and Thanksgiving in what Deadline had previously dubbed Spyglass’ “campy horror canon.”
In a previous statement, Ruben expressed his excitement at bringing to life this eclectic blend of genres:
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
Heart Eyes is still seeking US and Canadian distribution, but Republic Pictures have picked up rights for elsewhere. We'll bring you more Heart Eyes updates as we get them!
