Go back to the beginning with your favorite serial killer, as Paramount+ has just debuted the trailer for Dexter: Original Sin, starring Patrick Gibson as a younger version of the television icon we’ve come to know and love — despite every indication that we shouldn’t.
The trailer takes us all the way back to the dark ages of 1991 — try not to feel old, if you can — to meet Dexter as a college student. Trying his hardest to suppress his bloodthirsty urges, he simply can’t hold it in anymore, and audiences will get to see his transition from normal twenty-something to avenging serial killer, with the help of his father, played ever-so-helpfully by Heathers star Christian Slater. The only catch? He’s interning at the Miami Metro Police Department, which puts a tiny snag in his murderous plans.
The series also stars Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson, with special guest stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Dempsey. But if you’re jonesing for the OG Dexter, never fear: Michael C. Hall returns for Original Sin as well, voicing the iconic inner monologue in Dexter’s head.
Original Sin is executive produced by Clyde Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Hal, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns, with the series being produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis. It marks the second return to the world of Dexter after the end of the original series, following a sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, which aired in 2021, and starred Hall in a return to the iconic character, as well as Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, and Clancy Brown.
Dexter: Original Sin premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13, before making its linear debut on December 15 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The series will also be available internationally on Paramount+ beginning on December 13. Check out the trailer now:
