The horror world is getting a shakeup, with news emerging today that Bloody Disgusting co-founder and Terrifier producer Brad Miska, who left the website last year, will be taking over as owner of Bloody competitor Dread Central.
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter (who broke the news exclusively earlier today) report that Miska, along with siblings Heather and Peter Luttrell, digital media and advertising executives and former co-owners of Bloody Disgusting, as well the founders of IndieClick, has launched Be Afraid Media, an independent horror media company that will look to expand across the horror ecosystem with live events, merchandise, production, and distribution.
Per THR, Dread Releasing, Dread Central's film production and distribution arm, and DreadXP, the video game publishing division, will continue to operate as part of Epic Pictures (who bought Dread Central back in 2017) businesses, separate from the main transaction.
Speaking with THR, Miska detailed his goals with the company further:
“Dread Central has been a trusted voice in horror for nearly two decades […] Our goal is to expand its reach and accessibility while preserving the integrity and independence that its audience values.”
Jon Condit, Dread Central co-founder, adds:
“There is no team better suited to take the helm of Dread Central. They understand the genre, they respect the audience, and they have the experience to guide Dread into its next era. I’m excited to see what the future holds under their leadership.”
Exciting news all round, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for our friends at both Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting. Watch this space.
