Bad first dates are practically universal, as is the experience of dealing with annoying jerks on the Internet. Combine the two and add a little bit of homicidal rage in there and you’ve got the premise for Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon’s newest movie, Drop, which has finally set a release date for April 11, 2025.
Along with a poster featuring star Meghann Fahy’s eyes as she gazes down at her phone, we also have a full synopsis for the film, which co-stars Brandon Sklenar, Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffrey Self, Ed Weeks, and Travis Nelson:
Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Us’ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.
Written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, the Blumhouse film is Landon’s first directorial effort since last year’s We Have a Ghost, starring Stranger Things’ David Harbour and Anthony Mackie. It’s also his first film to hit theaters after he exited the troubled Scream 7, which he was initially set to direct. The film is produced by Jason Blum, Brad and Cameron Fuller, and Michael Bay, of all people. (We don’t know what he’s doing here, but we’re excited nonetheless.)
Drop hits theaters on April 11, 2025. Check out the poster below:
