Ari Aster's Eddington gets an anxiety-inducing first trailer from A24 today, with a confirmed release date of July 18.
The fourth feature from the Hereditary and Midsommar director, Eddington will premiere at Cannes later this year, and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Austin Butler, and follows a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and a mayor (Pascal) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr. and Luke Grimes also star.
Eddington is Aster and A24's sixth collaboration, following Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid. Aster's Square Peg banner also worked with A24 on Dream Scenario, Death of a Unicorn, The Drama and Primetime.
Aster produced Eddington alongside Lars Knudsen under Square Peg. Production kicked off in March 2024.
Today's new trailer doesn't reveal too much (it looks like it'll veer into pandemic conspiracy theory territory at least) but if Aster's track record is anything to go by, we're in for another epic of unease from the anxiety auteur.
