Ahead of its November 14 theatrical release, Paramount Pictures has unveiled an action-packed new trailer for Edgar Wright's dystopian action-thriller The Running Man.
Based on Stephen King's (then going by Richard Bachman) 1982 novel of the same name, The Running Man features a stacked cast, including Glen Powell, Michael Cera, Karl Glusman, Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Katy O’Brian, William H. Macy, Daniel Ezra and Lee Pace.
Co-written by Wright and Michael Bacall, The Running Man sees Powell (Hit Man, Twisters) star as protagonist Ben Richards, a participant in a dystopian reality television show in which contestants win money by evading a team of hitmen sent to kill them:
In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort.
But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.
Wright's The Running Man is the first adaptation since the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring 1987 movie from Paul Michael Glazer, and marks the Shaun of the Dead director's first feature since 2021's Last Night in Soho.
