The Evil Dead (1981)

For the discerning reader who doesn’t have quite enough literature in their house capable of bringing on the end of the world, Propstore has great news: they’re auctioning off a number of props and other items from The Evil Dead, including a real Necronomicon! As a part of their latest Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, Propstore is selling a variety of pieces from the collection of special effects master Tom Sullivan, who worked on the original 1981 film that spawned the gory franchise.

The big ticket item is, of course, a screen-used Necronomicon, which starts at $25,000, but is estimated by Propstore to go for anywhere from $50,000 to a whopping $100,000. According to its catalogue description, the book “is composed of a brown latex-coated cardboard cover filled with hand-illustrated 38 pages (glued together in pairs to form thicker pages) of parchment-color paper that were intentionally distressed by production. The pages feature original artwork hand-illustrated by Sullivan. The book’s cover was made from cardboard coated with latex and is now separated into three pieces (front, spine and back) with some latex loss to the components. The interior pages are also loose from the covers.”

Other Evil Dead items in the lot include a screen-matched version of Linda’s necklace and gift box, a prototype of the Book of the Dead, a Kandarian dagger, a Deadite head, and multiple special effects makeup appliances, as well as hand-illustrated concept artwork, and even Sullivan’s personal script for the film, complete with hand-drawn illustrations.

As the auction is one of Propstore’s many large, multi-title auctions, there are also several other horror-related items up for grabs, as discovered by the folks at Bloody Disgusting. A screen-used puppet from Gremlins is up for grabs, if you’re willing to drop twenty-five grand, as well as a Ghostface mask from 2022’s Scream, and a screen-matched, cable-controlled animatronic Freddy Krueger TV puppet from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

The three-day Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction will begin at 10:30 AM PT on March 26, with the full auction running for three days, and in-person bidding available at The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Global online, absentee and telephone bids will be accepted throughout the event, and interested buyers can register now and view lots on Propstore’s website.
