Horror director Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground, Evil Dead Rise, the upcoming Lee Cronin's The Mummy) will continue to make his homeland proud by taking home coveted Oscar Wilde Award at the US-Ireland Alliance-organized ceremony on March 12 at the Ebell theater in Los Angeles, per an exclusive scoop from The Hollywood Reporter.

Cronin, who was raised in the seaside town of Skerries, is the latest to take home the award that celebrates creatives from Ireland who contribute to film, television and music. Past recipients include Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), Jessie Buckley (Men, the upcoming The Bride!), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), Daisy Ridley (We Bury the Dead, Ti West's upcoming A Christmas Carol) and Maura Tierney (Twisters).

Lee Cronin's The Mummy is one of our most anticipated horror movies of 2026 and part of a new wave of monster movies headed our way.  Set to hit theaters on April 17, 2026, as part of Cronin's deal with New Line Cinema, the pic was produced by horror giants Blumhouse and James Wan's Atomic Monster.

Midsommar‘s Jack Reynor leads the cast, with Laia Costa (Devils), Veronica Falcón(The Forever Purge, Imaginary), May Calamawy (Moon Knight), and May Elghety (Grand Hotel) also starring.

Plot details for Lee Cronin's The Mummy are still firmly under wraps, but back in December, Cronin teased a little of what we can expect from his upcoming take on the classic Universal Monster movie:

“This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before […] I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,”

Cronin's Evil Dead Rise was a huge hit back in 2023, nabbing almost $150 million at the global box office and kickstarting a new chapter in the Evil Dead franchise which sees creator Sam Raimi handpicking directors to helm standalone entries in the series.  Next up is Sébastien Vaniček's Evil Dead Burn, and an as-of-now untitled Evil Dead from Last Stop in Yuma County‘s Francis Galluppi.

From all of us at Fango, congratulations to Mr. Cronin, and we look forward to hearing more about The Mummy.
