August 8 marks International Cat Day, and to celebrate the fluffy purrfection of our furry feline friends, we're bringing you an exclusive poster for Takashi Miike's horror comedy anime series Nyaight of the Living Cat, as part of Sony's cross promotion of the Japanese digital release of the year's biggest zombie horror hit, 28 Years Later.

Now streaming on Crunchyroll, Nyaight of the Living Cat, helmed by genre maestro Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer) as executive director, is based on a manga written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots. Tomohiro Kamitani (Beyond the Sky) also directs, with Shingo Irie (Afterlost: Where I End and You Begin) on script duties and character designs by Takao Maki (Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls).

In the adorable apocalyptic series:

Run! The adorable cats are here. In 20XX, the world is dominated by cats. A virus which turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat has spread into a worldwide nyandemic. Cats rub against people, turning them into cats. Can humanity fight their urge to pet cats to survive in this cat-ridden world?

Nyaight of the Living Cat's Japanese voice cast includes Masaaki Mizunaka (Classroom of the Elite), Reina Ueda (Solo Leveling), Reiji Kawashima (To Your Eternity), Yu Serizawa (Rent-A-Girlfriend), Subaru Kimura (JUJUTSU KAISEN), Yoshiki Nakajima (Dr. STONE), Hiroki Yasumoto (Fairy Tail) and Ryota Takeuchi (The Ancient Magus' Bride).

28 Years Later, which is also now available on Digital in the US, saw Danny Boyle and Alex Garland return from 2002 original 28 Days Later for directing and writing duties respectively, with Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, newcomer Alfie Williams, Jodie Comer, and Jack O'Connell leading the cast as survivors of the Rage Virus that ravaged Britain almost three decades prior. The distinctly British horror movie marks the start of a brand-new trilogy, with Nia DaCosta's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple currently set for a January 16, 2026 release.

Our exclusive Nyaight of the Living Cat 28 Years Later poster (seen below) takes the iconic biohazard symbol and turns it into something creepy and cute (much like cats themselves!) to celebrate International Cat Day, which officially begins today in Japan's timezone. We've also got a look at Sony Japan's special Nyaight of the Living Cat and 28 Years Later collab video (although it doesn't yet have English subtitles) which sees Nyaight characters Kunagi and Kaoru live reacting to the 28 Years Later trailer, commenting that that their world is similarly overrun, but with kitties, and that they wonder what kind of relationship these other survivors have with their infected.

Episode 6 of Nyaight of the Living Cat, dropping on Sunday, sees Kunagi and his cat-loving group head to the shopping mall under the orders of Grandma (a cat lover), the leader of the survivalist group. They undertake the mission of searching for their missing comrades. Meanwhile, the Ward family (all cat lovers), Kouji, Len, and Masaki, who are visiting the mall to procure food, find themselves in a critical situation surrounded by cute cats…

Go give your cat a hug to celebrate their special day and stream Nyaight of the Living Cat on Crunchyroll right here.
