Plenty of stuff can go wrong on vacation, but at least you don’t have to worry about demonic possession on your Caribbean cruise. (Usually.) Unfortunately, the protagonist of Comixology’s newest original series Exorcism Island has plenty to worry about in that arena, but FANGORIA is excited to reveal all-new details about the upcoming series, as well as an exclusive preview of the first issue.
Exorcism Island teams up comic book writer Jordan Thomas with artist Chris Matthews, the pair behind the acclaimed series Mugshots, who’ve known each other since elementary school. The five-issue series will be released monthly via Comixology beginning on October 21, and its synopsis is as follows:
Following a terrifying confrontation with a possessed woman, Father Gigi Amato finds himself on a remote Caribbean Island run by the Vatican. Amato is sent to join a group of priests tasked with looking after the most troubled, long term, demonic possession cases. The group of psychologically and emotionally bruised priests bicker and bond in their attempt to keep the madness of the island under control, but dark forces are working against them from all sides as evil digs its nails into their spiritually poisoned, isolated home.
“Exorcism Island takes the tradition of the best demonic possession stories and cranks it up several notches with ever-escalating terror and tense cliffhangers,” says Thomas. “This is a story that is both horrifying and highly entertaining. Artist Chris Matthews brings it all together with his unique and visually gripping graphic art style and color choices.”
Exorcism Island is one of Comixology’s many original titles, part of an exclusive digital content line that’s available for both Kindle Unlimited and Comixology Unlimited members at no additional cost, and for purchase through Amazon. The new series is the third time Matthews and Thomas have teamed up, with Matthews having also drawn for Thundercats and Action Force, and Thomas having written titles like The Man From Maybe, Weird Work, and Skin Police.
“The story of Exorcism Island is so rich with terrifying and unsettling imagery it was great fun getting to bring it all to life and add something to the world of horror and possession stories,” Matthews said of this new collaboration.
Exorcism Island #1 debuts on October 21, 2025. Check out our exclusive preview below:
