While everybody’s got their favorite movie monster, there’s one that rises above them all in the annals of pop culture history — of course he would, in those platform boots of his. That’s right, I’m talking about Frankenstein (or Frankenstein's Monster, if we’re being accurate here), the undead creation of author Mary Shelley that’s terrified the world for over two hundred years. Since the publication of her novel in 1818, Frankenstein has left an indelible mark on horror history, and now, we’re celebrating the legacy of the lumbering, lovable Creature with FANGORIA Presents: Frankenstein.
The 100-page “bookazine,” which is now available in 25,000 stores across the country (and internationally!), explores the history of the Mary Shelley story that changed horror forever. From its original publication to its many adaptations across film and TV over the years, this special edition highlights the influence of the Creature on pop culture as we know it, evoking awe, nostalgia, and curiosity about its evolution.
“What’s especially cool about this publication, beyond the deep editorial insights and behind-the-scenes trivia from our writers, is that we've published an impressive amount of large-format, striking, very-rarely-seen images from throughout the character’s history onscreen,” says FANGORIA’s senior editor Meredith Borders, who you might also recognize as the spearhead of our First in Fright compendium project.
FANGORIA Presents: Frankenstein will include not only a deep dive into 2025’s Frankenstein, featuring interviews with director Guillermo del Toro and creature creator Mike Hill, but also the many other versions that have terrified us throughout the years, including those portrayed by Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, David Prowse, and many more. But Frankenstein’s legacy doesn’t just stop at the creature — we’re also presenting a history of the many offshoot stories Shelley inspired, including films like Frankenweenie and Lisa Frankenstein, as well as those based on the life of the legendary author herself.
FANGORIA Presents: Frankenstein is now available at 25,000 retail locations nationwide, including Magazine Shop US, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS HEB, Meijer, and major airport terminals like Hudson News, Paradies, and Trofie, and online at the Fango Shop. Canadian Franken-fans can grab a copy in Shopper's Drug Mart, Walmart CAN, Loblaws, and more. Check out an exclusive sneak peek of the cover down below:
