Finnish Folklore Horror LOVE IS THE MONSTER Acquired By Raven Banner Entertainment

Alex Noyer's second feature stars Madeline Zima and Leonardo Nam.

Raven Banner Entertainment will launch worldwide sales for Love is the Monster, the upcoming horror from director and writer Alex Noyer (Sound of Violence).

Starring Madeline Zima (Californication) and Leonardo Nam (Westworld), Love is the Monster was inspired by Finnish mythology, and follows a troubled couple who head to Finland for a transformative retreat, where they fall prey to a sinister cult seeking to resurrect an ancient goddess of love.

Kimberly Sue-Murray (The Boys), Moe Jeudy-Lamour (Ted Lasso), Kristina Tonteri-Young (Warrior Nun), Milla Puolakanaho (Attack on Helsinki) and Sheila McCarthy (Women Talking) in the feature, which was co-written by Hannua Aukia and Blair Bathory. Aukia also produces alongside Laurence Gendron (A Wounded Fawn) and Noyer.

As well as boarding sales, Raven Banner will be presenting the film at the Marché Du Film and its Fantastic Pavilion, during this upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

In a statement, Noyer (also founder of You Know Films) had this to say about teaming up with Raven Banner Entertainment:

“I have known the Raven Banner team for some time and their attachment to bold storytelling in horror is what makes this partnership so exciting. Love is the Monster brings about a sort of modern folk horror based on Finnish mythology and I can’t wait to send our audiences to this retreat.”

James Fler, Managing Partner at Raven Banner (who also recently handled the Irish-language ghost story An Taibhse and post-apocalyptic horror Párvulos) adds:

“Raven Banner is thrilled to continue to support Finnish genre filmmaking, with its acquisition of Alex Noyer’s Love is the Monster. Alex’s track record of telling compelling stories, with strong genre elements, makes this film a perfect fit for Raven Banner. We look forward to introducing it to the marketplace in Cannes, in both our booth, but also at the Fantastic Pavilion.

Producer Gendron expands on the Finnish-Canadian bond and how it fits perfectly with Love is the Monster:

“There’s a lot of affinity between Finland and Canada and shooting this film, based on Finnish mythology, here further proved it. Raven Banner’s track record working with Finnish filmmakers proves how this collaboration makes so much sense. I am confident the film will make quite an impression on the market in Cannes”
