Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is officially one of the biggest horror movies of the year, passing the $200 million mark at the box office. While Blumhouse had a rough first half of 2025 with Wolf Man ($34 million worldwide), The Woman in the Yard ($23 million worldwide), Drop ($28 million worldwide)and M3GAN 2.0 ($39 million worldwide) all serving as major disappointments. Freddy Fazbear and Co. have come to the rescue.

It was a very crowded weekend at the box office with James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash ($88 million), the faith-based David ($22 million), Paul Feig’s erotic thriller The Housemaid ($18.9 million) and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants ($16 million) all debuting. Even so, FNAF2 managed to hold its own on its third weekend, relatively speaking, adding $7.2 million domestically.

With that, the sequel has now amassed $108.9 million domestically to go with $92.9 million overseas for a running total of $201.8 million worldwide following its huge opening earlier this month. While it has very little chance of matching the first Five Nights at Freddy’s ($291.5 million), that doesn’t mean it’s a disappointment by any stretch. Against a reported $36 million budget, it’s already turned a huge profit. Everything from here on out is gravy.

The only horror movies that made more this year were Jurassic World Rebirth ($869 million), The Conjuring: Last Rites ($494 million), Sinners ($368 million), Final Destination Bloodlines ($316 million) and Weapons ($269 million). Not bad company to be in.

The sequel picks up one year after the first movie. Stories about what happened at Freddy Fazbear’s have become local legend, leading to the town’s first ever Fazfest. Abby (Piper Rubio) sneaks out to rekindle her friendship with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy, which sets into motion a deadly series of events. Josh Hutcherson (Mike) Elizabeth Lail (Vanessa) and Matthew Lillard (William Afton) also reprised their roles.

At this point, it’s all but assured that Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 will get the green light. It’s just a matter of how soon Blumhouse and Universal will get the ball rolling. It’s also unclear if Tammi will return to round out the trilogy. Though it’ feels safe to assume the studio would love to have her back.

Looking forward, Sony’s Anaconda reboot starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd will help round out the year when it arrives on Christmas Day. That leads into a jam-packed January for horror fans with Primate, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Return to Silent Hill and Send Help all hitting theaters throughout the month. Buckle up because 2026 is starting off strong.
