Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is now alive and streaming on Netflix, with Alexandre Desplat's haunting soundtrack now available on vinyl, courtesy of the good folks at Mutant.
Available in two exclusive versions, one of Mutant's Frankenstein releases comes with a deluxe 28-page hand-stitched book edition, strictly limited to 2,000 numbered units worldwide. Designed by Craig Oldham and featuring a textured sleeve, leatherette trim detail, gold foil accents, and filled with behind-the-scenes photography and medical illustrations from the film. The second beautifully hand-illustrated edition is available boasting all new artwork by Francesco Francavilla, housed inside a bespoke die-cut creature slipcase.
Starring in del Toro's take on Mary Shelley's classic sci-fi novel are Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz, as well as Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (Ahsoka), David Bradley (Harry Potter), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, Nosferatu), and Charles Dance (Alien 3, Game of Thrones). In the new adaptation of the creature classic, a brilliant but egotistical scientist brings a monstrous creature to life in a daring experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
Following a limited theatrical release, Netflix unleashed Frankenstein earlier today, November 7. Although streaming figures are not yet available, critics and audiences alike are aligned on an excellent reception, with Fango's own Michael Gingold praising the film's “impeccable craft” and Desplat's “full-blooded score”.
Both versions of Desplat's score for del Toro's Frankenstein are now available via Mutant's official site. For more Frankenstein goodness, make sure to grab yourself FANGORIA's upcoming one-shot bookazine, celebrating the cinematic journey of the Creature across the ages.
