The King of the Monsters is headed to Chicago! Publisher IDW announced a new miniseries last year titled Godzilla vs. America. As the title implies, it will see the legendary kaiju making his way across the United States during the course of four issues. The first issue, Godzilla vs. Chicago, hits shelves in February and it will see our boy tearing it up in the Windy City…and he’s got some company.

IDW revealed a brief preview of the over-sized issue recently, which you can check out below. We’ve also got the main cover art for the book, also below. The preview art is but a single page, but it reveals that none other than Mechagodzilla is getting in on the action as well. Good luck to you, citizens of Chicago. Check it out for yourself.

The creative team for the first issue in this miniseries includes Tim Seeley (Nightwing, Local Man), Mike Costa (G.I. Joe: Cobra, Lucifer), Ryan Browne (Eight Billion Genies), Caroline Cash (PeePeePooPoo) and Ezra Claytan Daniels (Upgrade Soul, Doom Patrol). This is part of IDW’s reboot of the Godzilla comics this year. Readers will be able to get a glimpse of what else the publisher has in store in the pages of Godzilla: The New Heroes Free Comic Book Day 2025, which will be available in May as part of Free Comic Book Day 2025.

As of this writing, the other cities that will be tackled in the miniseries have yet to be named. It seems like a fairly safe bet that Godzilla will pay a visit to New York City. Beyond that? It’s anyone’s guess. As for Godzilla vs. Chicago, the synopsis for the book reads as follows:

“Godzilla is coming to America, and its first stop? Chicago! Join a star-studded crew of Chicago comics creators through four epic stories across the Windy City. The L train experiences its worst delays yet, Godzilla interrupts a major sporting event, and a new Chicago-based superhero reaches the end of her rope. This issue features a superstar lineup of creators including Tim Seeley, Mike Costa and Ryan Browne, Caroline Cash, and Ezra Clayton Daniels! Join us at the start of a new anthology series that follows Godzilla across the United States!”

“There’s not much I love in the world more than comics. Maybe Chicago,” Seeley said. “And there’s not much I love more than Chicago. Maybe Godzilla. And so, the chance to combine so many beloved things together for IDW’s ‘Godzilla vs. America’ series is a pleasure and an honor. I will mess up my favorite town with the greatest kaiju. Better call ‘Dibs’ on an oxygen destroyer.”

This is just part of what’s shaping up to be a big year for the Godzilla franchise. Marvel Comics and Toho also announced Godzilla vs. Marvel recently, representing the first major crossover between the King of the Monsters and Marvel in decades. We’ve also got Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 to look forward to on Apple TV+. It’s currently filming and is expected to arrive later this year. Plus, a sequel to Godzilla x Kong is in the works, not to mention a follow-up to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. In short, there is much to look forward to.
