What happens when the King of the Monsters faces off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? We’re going to find out in 2025. Marvel has officially announced a new crossover event, Godzilla vs. Marvel, coming our way next year. Buckle up because things are about to get wild. The series will consist of six different one-shot comics, all of which will feature the legendary kaiju facing off with different characters from the Marvel Comics universe. If I may? Hell yeah.

The news comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter, with the outlet confirming that the first entry in the series will be Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four, written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and with art by John Romita Jr. (The Amazing Spider-Man). All six issues will take place across different time periods, with Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor and the X-Men also on deck. While we don’t have a glimpse at any of the specific issues just yet, an epic piece of promo art cooked up by Leinil Francis Yu and Romulo Fajardo Jr. has been revealed, which you can check out below.

Godzilla vs. Marvel - Marvel Comics

This is far from the first time that Godzilla has starred in a major comic book crossover. Just last year, DC Comics published Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, as one example. But this is a big deal because it’s the first time that the legendary monster has been a part of a major Marvel Comics event in nearly five decades. Marvel published a series titled Godzilla, King of the Monsters from 1977 to 1979, which recently received a collected edition. As for the first issue of this new crossover? It sounds wild as hell, based on THR’s description.

Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four will center on the Fantastic Four battling classic Godzilla antagonist King Ghidorah, who has been imbued with the power cosmic as the new herald for Galactus, the giant devourer of worlds. In this issue, Godzilla will actually team up with the Silver Surfer in order to attempt to save the Earth.”

“We approached [Toho] initially for our reprints, but a while after those conversations, it was clear that both of our teams were excited to do more together,” Marvel editor in chief C.B. Cebulski explained. “These crossovers started coming together over that time, in direct collaboration with Toho, and we felt the perfect time for them was for Godzilla’s 70th anniversary next year. We’ve been thrilled to work with them on these, and we hope this will be a sign for more exciting projects to come.”

It looks like it’s going to be a big year for the King of the Monsters, overall. Not only do we have this series to look forward to, but IDW recently announced that their Godzilla universe will be getting a major reboot. That should give us all something to do while we wait for the Godzilla Minus One sequel, as well as the follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, both of which are in the works.

“For us, kaiju—and specifically Godzilla—are important parts of Marvel’s comic history, so we knew we wanted to explore something with their teams,” Dan Buckley, president, Marvel Comics & Franchises added. “We’ve always been fans of Godzilla, but with the steady rise in Godzilla’s popularity over the years, it’s part of our current cultural zeitgeist and a perfect example of the fun that the comics industry can bring. We’re focused on the storytelling first and foremost, but fun opportunities for crossovers like this give both of our fans an entertaining escape that they won’t want to miss.”
