If anybody knows how to take care of giant prehistoric creatures…

Years after he stood up against giant prehistoric lizards in the Jurassic Park films, Sam Neill is taking on a different kind of giant beast. Legendary has announced that the Event Horizon star is joining the cast of the upcoming Godzilla x Kong film, though word’s not out yet on who he’ll be playing alongside previously announced stars Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Dan Stevens.

Stevens is the only currently announced cast member who’s returning for another round against the Titans, as he appeared as go-get-’em pilot Trapper in last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. According to Deadline, the film is “said to place several new human characters alongside Titans Godzilla and Kong, as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.” The sequel will be directed by Grant Sputore from a script by Dave Callahan, and he’s taking over the directorial duties from Adam Wingard, who directed both The New Empire and its predecessor.

The as-yet-untitled Godzilla x Kong sequel will be the sixth in Legendary’s creatively-titled Monsterverse, which began with the American Godzilla back in 2014. It’s also featured a critically-acclaimed spin-off series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which stars father and son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell playing two versions of the same character. Collectively, the franchise has made $2.5 billion globally over the course of a decade.

Sam Neill is, of course, no stranger to the horror realm, having starred in not only Jurassic Park and Event Horizon, but also the cult film Possession, co-starring Isabelle Adjani, as well as In the Mouth of Madness. He’s also set to star in Untamed, a new murder mystery series for Netflix co-starring Eric Bana and set in Yosemite National Park.

No release date has been announced for the untitled Godzilla x Kong sequel. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
