After featuring in Ti West’s trilogy-capper MaXXXine earlier this year, singer-songwriter Halsey is reteaming with the acclaimed director for a screenwriting project of her own. Variety reports that the artist, whose real name is Ashley Frangipane, is penning a new series called Bloodlust for Prime Video, with West set to direct.
No plot details about the show have been revealed, other than it being a dark comedy, with Severance’s Mark Friedman and Halsey’s manager Anthony Li executive producing for Amazon MGM Studios. Based on the title, there’s no doubt it’ll be gory, much like the singer’s turn in MaXXXine, where she played a Hollywood sex worker who meets an unfortunate end after crossing paths with Mia Goth’s final girl.
MaXXXine wasn’t Halsey’s first time on-screen, though. She also played herself in the newest remake of A Star Is Born and the Showtime series Roadies, and featured in Americana, as well as providing her voice for animated projects like American Dad, Scooby Doo and Guess Who?, Sing 2, and Teen Titans GO! To the Movies. She recently released her fifth album, The Great Impersonator, her first with Columbia Records that served as a concept album about her struggles with chronic illness and mortality.
Bloodlust is the first project to be announced after West wrapped up his X trilogy, beginning with the first titular film in 2022, followed by the prequel Pearl, and finally MaXXXine, which also starred Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth Debicki, and Lily Collins. He also recently directed episodes of Prime Video’s horror series Them, though he has not announced any plans for future feature films as of writing. How many episodes of the series West will direct has not been announced.
No release window has been set for Bloodlust, but the entire X trilogy is available to stream now on Max.
