If you thought Hellboy on his own was enough, then you’d better prepare yourself for his family, because they’re arriving soon and aren’t pulling any punches. Dark Horse Comics just announced that Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is enlisting his brother Todd Mignola, who previously worked on Hellboy: The Exorcist of Vorsk, for a new two-issue special comic that brings back the titular demon with his family for a whole lot of hellraising.

Co-written by the Mignola Brothers, The Crown: A Tale of Hell will feature art by Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, with variant covers by Mike Mignola and Bruno Seelig, and focus on Hellboy’s brothers, Gammon and Lusk. After their first appearance in 2012’s Hellboy in Hell, the brothers are now fighting for control of Pandemonium, and they aren’t alone — their mother is returning from her prison for the first time in a hundred years, and she’s got her sights on the throne too.

“Todd came to me with the idea of writing something about Hellboy’s brothers,” says Mike Mignola. “It never would have occurred to me to do more with those guys but it didn’t take much prodding. Brothers writing about brothers in a somewhat complicated family dynamic—once we got going it was almost too easy. And fun. And SO MUCH fun that I could only imagine it drawn by Warwick.”

The Crown: A Tale of Hell is just one of many Hellboy spin-off comics Mignola has in the works this year. Also hitting shelves are Hellboy and the B.R.P.D.: Professor Harvey Is Gone, which is available in comic stores now, and the time-travel bodyswap series Miss Truesdale and the Rise of Man, which arrives in December.

“I love where Todd and Mike are taking us with The Crown: A Tale Of Hell,” says Johnson-Cadwell. “I’m so grateful to have worked with Mike on Mr. Higgins and the Encounters With Evil books, but this is a step into the Hellboy universe and the opportunity to draw some of those legendary characters. And more exciting still, to introduce someone altogether new.”

The Crown: A Tale of Hell #1 hits shelves on February 11, 2026. Check out the special miniseries’ covers below:
