Here’s All The Horror News From The 2025 Game Awards

Cosmic forests, dark-fantasy bloodbaths, and the return of RESIDENT EVIL's golden boy.

Last Updated on December 15, 2025 by Angel Melanson

Last night's Game Awards had its ups and downs for horror fans – we did get an official reveal of Leon S. Kennedy's grand return to Resident Evil Requiem, sure, but there was also no news on Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele's OD, no news on Bloober Team's Silent Hill 1 remake, and the Silent Hill f team went home empty-handed. Where gamers really won though was with the announcement of a ton of brand new titles, many of them firmly in the camp of our favorite genre, or at least horror adjacent. Let's dive in.

  • Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred

The reveal of Blizzard's Diablo IV expansion, officially titled Lord of Hatred, was a big hit last night, with fans of the dark-fantasy-action RPG learning that not only would a pre-purchase of Lord of Hatred allow for immediate access to the fan-favorite Paladin class, gamers will also be able to play a second mystery class that Blizzard has yet to reveal. Other exciting reveals included the return of succubus queen Lilith, who supposedly died at the end of Diablo IV, as well as a whole new region titled Skovos that will be available to explore when Lord of Hatred releases on April 28, 2026.

  • Stupid Never Dies

Former Resident Evil programmer and producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi is keeping in the zombie game with Stupid Never Dies, the upcoming action-horror RPG from Kobayashi's studio GPTRACK50. Set in a world where monsters are part of everyday life (not just the undead – werewolves, lizardmen, skeletons and more too), players take on the role of Davy, a lowly zombie who must brave a dungeon to bring back Julia, a frozen human he loved. This one looks like tons of fun. Stupid Never Dies will be available on PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5 in 2026.

  • Decrepit

If you love the castle levels of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Village, Decrepit looks like the perfect game for you. The dark fantasy-horror first-person souls-like game made its debut at the Game Awards last night, and immediately shot to the top of our To Play list of 2026 when it'll be available on PC. According to developer Jämmerdal Games and publisher Three Friend, Decrepit is inspired by classic first-person action games like Hexen, dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder, and emphasises spatial mastery over power creep. Hell yeah.

  • John Carpenter's Toxic Commando

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, the upcoming Left 4 Dead style action-horror from Saber Interactive and the master of horror himself, unveiled a release date last night of March 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam, as well as some new gameplay footage. Billed as “another f*cking zombie game”, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando sees players team up in squads of up to four players and send the so-called Sludge God and its horde of things-that-should-never-be back to the underworld. Strap in.

  • Phasmophobia (Nintendo Switch 2)

Kinetic Games’ Phasmophobia is officially headed to Nintendo's latest console, with last night revealing that the ghost-hunting horror game will be available to play on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. While an exact date is still unknown, Kinetic Games CEO and game director Daniel Knight confirmed that the port is on track for a 2026 release. First unleashed in 2020, the ghost-hunting hit blends immersive paranormal investigation and co-operative gameplay to great effect, as players work solo or in a group with up to three other players to complete a contract in which they must identify the type of ghost haunting the specified site. Since release, the game has surpassed 23 million in global sales, and took home Best Debut Game award at The 2020 Game Awards. Oh, and there's a movie on the way too!

  • Divinity

Ok, we have no proof that Divinity, the latest game from Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios, is a horror game, but did you see the trailer?! We're claiming it. The mysterious latest entry in the RPG series started with 2002's Divine Divinity doesn't yet have a release date, but given that the developer describes the game as their biggest yet, we can't imagine we'll be seeing much on Divinity for at least a couple of years. At least we have this gnarly cinematic teaser though.

  • Forest 3

Endnight Games is following up The Forest and Son of the Forest with the newly-announced Forest 3, an upcoming survival horror game with what looks to be a totally cosmic twist. Plot details and release date remain a total mystery, but we're already incredibly hyped for Forest 3 – the new teaser is giving Death Stranding and Annihilation vibes, and we suspect we'll be hearing a lot about this one going forward. Until then, let the theories begin!
