Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose (Hamilton, Wish) stars in House of Spoils, a “culinary psychological thriller” from director-writer duo Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy (Blow The Man Down) – with a new trailer today certain to whet your appetite for the film's October 3 release on Prime Video.

House of Spoils, which also stars Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria, Nope, the upcoming Faces of Death) and Arian Moayed (Succession, the upcoming Shell), will have its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest later this month.

From Blumhouse, House of Spoils follows an ambitious chef (DeBose) as she opens a restaurant on a remote estate where she battles kitchen chaos, crushing self-doubts… and a haunting presence who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.

Produced by horror titan Jason Blum, House of Spoils continues a collaboration forged by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in 2019.

The official press release for House of Spoils lets us know that food stylist Zoe Hegedus (whose previous credits include Midsommar, Poor Things and Dune: Part 1 and Part 2) consulted on the film. Hegedus specializes in creating food for movies and TV series, as well as “immersive eating experiences, food installations and edible tablescapes.” Probably best not to watch House of Spoils on an empty stomach because this thing looks DELICIOUSly creepy.

In an interview with Elle, Savage Cole (who, along with Krudy, drew on past experiences as a waitress in New York's fast-paced culinary scene to form House of Spoils) talked about how DeBose got down and dirty for some of House of Spoils‘ more intense scenes:

“This was a challenging shoot […] It was like she’s in every scene. It’s dirty, it’s nasty. Some of these sets, we literally had her crawling in dirt over and over again one night and there was a lot we asked of her.”

DeBose, ever the consummate professional, was of course happy to oblige, expanding on what attracted her to the role of Chef:

“When I read the script, I was fascinated by the idea of a character with no name. Chef, defined by her work—how many women, everybody really, can relate to that idea at one point in their lives? […] I love risk-taking characters willing to put it all on the line for their dreams and ambitions.”
