For those of you who love the In Search of Darkness trilogy covering all the best scares of the ‘80s and ‘90s, we have good news: the team behind the trilogy is gearing up to explore the next five years of horror with In Search of Darkness 1995-1995, available for pre-order next month, and which FANGORIA is excited to debut the poster for.
Designed by Dave Merell, who’s been doing the art for the series’ posters since In Search of Darkness Part II, as well as the art for Aliens Expanded and The Thing Expanded, the new art gives us a sneak peek at what films are going to feature in the latest installment of the series. We can spot references to Scream, The Ring, Vampire in Brooklyn, The Blair Witch Project, Event Horizon, and Bride of Chucky — how many can you see?
As the title makes obvious, the documentary will cover the making of the iconic horror films of the back half of the ‘90s, including but not limited to the films featured on the poster. As with the other installments of In Search of Darkness, the new late ‘90s edition will feature interviews and commentary from some of the most recognizable faces in the genre, including, as recently announced, the Wishmaster himself, Andrew Divoff. The full list of talent is yet to be revealed, but if 1990-1994 was any indication — having featured names like John Carpenter, Tom Savini, and Mike Flanagan — the lineup is sure to be killer.
The film is written and directed by David Weiner, who had this to say about the latest installment:
“Does this poster art remind you of your own high school years? Talented artist Dave Merrell's colorful new poster for In Search of Darkness: 1995-1999 is a mini masterpiece; the concept uniquely captures the spirit of late-'90s era horror, when films got gritty and Wes Craven's Scream was king, ushering in a new wave of popular, teen-centric horror.
Production is full steam ahead on 1995-1999, and I'm having some of the best and most entertaining conversations I've ever had with some of your favorite '90s horror legends, from both in front and behind the camera. Stay tuned to our @80sHorrorDoc socials for talent reveals as production progresses, and mark your calendars for this May 15th to pre-order In Search of Darkness: 1995-1999 and get your name in the credits.”
In Search of Darkness is the fifth installment in the series covering genre films in the latter part of the twenty century, which also includes a trilogy dedicated entirely to the ‘80s, as well as In Search of Tomorrow, a film all about the great sci-fi films of the ‘80s. Creator VC, the studio behind In Search of Darkness, has also produced In Search of the Last Action Heroes, about ‘80s action films, and FPS, about the history of first-person shooter video games.
The pre-sale for In Search of Darkness 1995-1999 opens on May 15. You can check out Merell’s poster design below:
