It's not a movie. It's not a play. It's an insidiously wicked third thing, and it's (likely) coming to a city near you. The Insidious: The Further You Fear live horror experience will be haunting over 80 cities when it hits the road in early 2025, so there's a very good chance you can find out exactly what it entails firsthand. The live theatrical experience reimagines the long-running Blumhouse film franchise and blurs the lines between reality and fiction.
The Insidious live show is hosted as a live event by the “real” Specs and Tucker. The actual paranormal investigators who inspired the first movie have taken their “Spectral Sightings Road Show” on tour, and let's just say, things quickly take a turn for the terrifying. As the infamous duo desperately tries to prove they are legitimate ghost hunters, things start to become very Insidious as the paranormal demonstration goes wrong and dark forces are inadvertently unleashed.
The audience finds themselves trapped in a genuinely haunted theatre, with something truly sinister lurking backstage. Of course, participants will find themselves under attack by familiar characters, including the Bride in Black, the Wheezing Man and the terrifying Lipstick Face Demon. But what’s real? What’s the show? And who are you really sitting next to?
The house is full. The stage is set. And the Red Door is about to open.

The creative team was tasked with reimagining the world of Insidious, creating a brand new, unique story within the established world of Insidious, and playing with the mythology while immersing a seated audience. No easy feat. Add to that the fact that the production is a traveling show, stopping at each theater for a single night run, and you've got yourself a pretty tall order. After chatting with Insidious: The Further You Fear co-writer Carl Grose, we began to understand the magnitude of this massive undertaking. With elements that feel like a nod to legendary showman William Castle, Grose took the task at hand seriously.
“Being an Insidious fan, I know what I’d want to see if I went to a show like this. Yes, you want the building dread, the (possibly) haunted house, and all the creaks and shadows and scares that come with that. But I know I’d also really want to see certain iconic demon characters and the like. The biggest thrill for me was to get to play with the incredible mythology Leigh Whannell and James Wan created. The Further is a wild place. I can’t wait to put that world on stage for the fans. I think we deliver the goods.”
Grose describes the entire experience as “a ghost train ride from your seat.” Adding: “It needed to be an idea that seeped into our bones. What would scare me is not knowing who exactly was sitting next to me.” Grose and the team have tapped into their own fears to prey upon the audience.
And lest you get the wrong idea, Grose reiterates: “It isn’t a play. You will come into the theater and you will sit down but the whole thing is fully immersive. You are not sitting down to watch a play unfold before you.” We're looking forward to what's in store when the experience hits the road early next year.
