Midsommar‘s Jack Reynor is switching bear suits for bandages with a lead role in the upcoming resurrection of The Mummy from director Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise), Deadline reveals today.

Set to hit theaters on April 17, 2026, The Mummy starts production next week in Ireland. UPDATE: Lee Cronin has today posted a photo from the set of The Mummy to Instagram (see below), indicating that production has already kicked off.

The Mummy comes as part of Cronin's deal with New Line Cinema, with horror giants Blumhouse and James Wan's Atomic Monster producing.

Per THR, plot details are still well under wraps (excuse the pun), but it is understood that Reynor is playing a husband and father who runs afoul of supernaturally sinister forces.

Back in December, Cronin teased a little of what we can expect from his upcoming take on the classic Universal Monster movie:

“This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before […] I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,”

Horror fans will of course recognize Reynor for his role as Christian, the distant and useless boyfriend of Florence Pugh's traumatized Dani, in Ari Aster's folk horror Midsommar. Since then he's also had starring roles in Cherry and The Good Mother.

Details from Deadline confirm that Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are co-financing The Mummy. Producing are James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville. Executive producing are Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Macdara Kelleher. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.

Look out for more on Cronin's The Mummy as we get it!
