It seems like Arrow Video is very much trying to stay in the Friday the 13th business. Just for a quick recap, the boutique label recently released a deluxe version of 2009’s Friday the 13th remake on 4K, which sold out rather quickly. More recently, it came to light that Arrow is also giving 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday the 4K treatment. Well, more good news for Jason Voorhees fans as it looks like 2002’s Jason X is also getting a 4K upgrade. That’s right! Jason Voorhees in space in Ultra HD!
According to the folks at Dawn of the Discs (see below), the new 4K release of Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat includes a postcard that quietly announced the forthcoming Arrow release of Jason X. Photographic proof was also provided in the thread. For the record, this is the very same way that the Jason Goes to Hell news was revealed before director Adam Marcus confirmed it. So it all checks out. Unfortunately, for the time being, no further information was provided.

Jason X hit theaters in 2002 and was the tenth entry in the series, which had been away from the silver screen for nearly a decade at that point. Taking things in an entirely new direction, director Jason Isaac’s decided to bring the machete-wielding maniac to space in the distant future. It was not exactly hailed in its day but, in the years since it came out, has been embraced by an increasing number of fans. For those who may need a refresher, the synopsis reads as follows:
“In the year 2455, on a routine training mission, a team of students is about to learn a terrifying lesson. Through the years, Jason Voorhees has claimed over 200 victims. Now, the legendary killer from Crystal Lake has found himself aboard a spaceship. And a little thing like zero gravity will not stop horror’s most vicious killer…”
Meanwhile, the Friday the 13th franchise remains in somewhat of a limbo period. We’ve had no films since the ‘09 remake and there are no current plans for another one. However, A23 and Peacock are currently working on a retooled version of the Crystal Lake TV series. There are also plans for a new Friday the 13th video game, though details are slim on that front. So, for now, watching Jason smash a girl’s frozen head to smithereens on a spaceship in high definition will have to do.
No word yet on a release date for the Jason X 4K disc but stay tuned. For more, check out our list of formerly hated sequels that are now loved by fans.
