Jenna Ortega Teases Slasher Episode Of WEDNESDAY Season 2

Netflix and Tim Burton's hit horror series returns this year.

Scream queen Jenna Ortega returns this year (exact date TBA) in the second season of Netflix and Tim Burton's Wednesday, teasing in a new interview that Season 2 of the record-breaking series will pay homage to classic horror genres.

Speaking with Collider over the weekend, Ortega gave an update on the status of Wednesday‘s second season, which recently wrapped filming in Ireland, saying things are “still in the edit.”

Ortega, who can next be seen in upcoming psychological thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow and A24's horror-comedy creature feature Death of a Unicorn, further detailed some of the cinematic influences on the new season:

“Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we've ever had. It's crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head—that's all I can say— and it reminds me so much of Full Metal Jacket. It's insane. So bizarre.

Pugsley giving Private Pyle? We're sold. And that's not all, as Ortega, who has starred in Scream and X and is of course no stranger to slashers, hints that a certain subgenre of horror will take the spotlight in one episode of Wednesday's second season:

I just feel like there are a lot of scenes and frames, and there's a whole episode based off of slashers, and we make a lot of horror references. So, everything about it, I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice.”

Ortega has previously also teased that both Carrie and Prom Night were on the inspiration board for this go-round at the Nevermore Academy, so horror fans could truly be in for a treat of homages this season.

Starring alongside Ortega in the second season of Wednesday are returning stars Gwendoline Christie, Luiz Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones and original Wednesday herself Christina Ricci. Also joining the second season are Lady Gaga, Christopher Lloyd (notably, Uncle Fester from the live action Addams Family movies), Joanna Lumley, Haley Joel Osment and Steve Buscemi.

Plot details for the second season are still under wraps, but exec producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar already have hinted a little of how the second season is going to go down.

Look out for more on Wednesday‘s second season as we get it, and head over to Collider for the full interview with Ortega.
