It looks like Bong Joon Ho's upcoming horror movie it set to get even scarier, as genre maestro John Carpenter has agreed to score the project.

Speaking at a 4K restoration screening of The Thing last night at the Academy Museum, Bong and his translator Sharon Choi referred to Carpenter's storied discography of scores, and asked if the horror legend would be interested in making music for another film.

Bong, whose most recent work Mickey 17 is now playing in theaters, then went on to detail the plan for his “next, next movie”, a horror feature. Before he could even officially ask the question, Carpenter eagerly replied “I wanna do your score.” The pair cemented the deal with a handshake as Bong assured this was “officially” and “seriously” happening.

Details of Bong's horror pic are still scarce, except that it's the Oscar-winning director's “life project” that he's been thinking about since 2001. The project has been described as being on a smaller scale akin to Parasite or his 2009 crime thriller Mother.

Speaking previously with MBC Korea, Bong described the film as being set in the Seoul subway, and teased the following opening minute of footage he has planned:

We're running through the underground section of the subway. In the car next to us, people wearing similar clothes start to come over to our side. We're running. A lot of people start to come over to our side.

Carpenter's signature synth-heavy music has of course provided the soundtrack for his most iconic movies, including Halloween, They Live and The Fog. He also scored David Gordon Green's Halloween reboot trilogy, and can be heard most recently on the score for A24's Death of a Unicorn. He'll kick off his first ever musical residency later this year in Los Angeles.
