As if John Carpenter’s legacy in Hollywood weren’t already permanently affixed in the minds of everyone who’s ever come across a Michael Myers mask or heard of The Thing, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is taking things one step further. They’ve announced that the master of horror will be receiving his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next month, with a dedication ceremony to honor the man behind Halloween, The Fog, and more.
The ceremony will take place in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on April 3, at 11:30AM PT, with Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Steve Nissen emceeing the ceremony, with guest speakers to be announced. The event will be livestreamed on the Walk of Fame’s website for out of town audiences to watch.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to pay tribute to director John Carpenter with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” says Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez. “He has forever shaped the horror genre and has created lasting cinematic masterpieces. It is an honor to dedicate a star to such a talented and influential director.”
The Hollywood Walk of Fame has been a permanent fixture of Hollywood Boulevard and a tourist attraction since the first stars were installed in 1960, now numbering almost three thousand with a mix of actors, musicians, producers, directors, and more lining the sidewalk that tourists come to see in the millions every year. Carpenter’s star installation follows that of Robert Englund, who also received a place on the Walk of Fame this year for his work playing Freddy Krueger for decades. Other horror icons with stars include Vincent Price, Anthony Perkins, Boris Karloff, and Bela Lugosi.
