Darren Aronofsky is making a return to horror, and this time, he’s bringing Joseph Gordon-Levitt with him. Deadline reports that Aronofsky will produce Pendulum, a new horror thriller starring Gordon-Levitt and directed by Black Swan writer Mark Heyman.

Pendulum is set to start production in New Mexico in March, with Gordon-Levitt set to play one half of a couple who find themselves caught in a Blink Twice-esque scenario after some severe trauma. The film’s full synopsis, per Deadline, is as follows:

The film follows the young couple Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail on a journey to a new-age retreat in New Mexico, drawn by the possibility of healing after a traumatic event. Patrick is willing to do anything to help his wife but becomes distrustful of the retreat’s enigmatic leader even as Abigail falls under her spell. As paranoia builds, the couple must determine if the group’s unconventional spiritual practices offer genuine healing – or mask a terrifying truth that threatens to consume them both.

Heyman comes to Pendulum after writing the 2023 Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman, starring David Dastmalchian and Sophie Thatcher, and collaborating with Aronofsky on films like Black Swan and mother!, as well as co-producing The Wrestler. Aronofsky balances the thriller with his crime flick Caught Stealing, which is currently shooting with Matt Smith and Austin Butler in New York City.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is no stranger to the thriller genre either, having starred in films like the well-loved Inception and the less loved Looper, as well as Kill Shot and 7500. He also recently starred in the action franchise sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, and made an appearance in frequent collaborator Rian Johnson’s Poker Face series.

Pendulum does not yet have a release date.
