Kevin Bacon just can’t stay away from horror this year. After starring with his wife and children in Family Movie, Deadline confirms that the beloved Footloose star is set to lead Summoner, a new demonic horror film from Amazon MGM produced by the names behind It

Summoner is written and directed by Jeremy Slater, best known for his work on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy series. Per Deadline, the film’s synopsis is as follows: “Summoner follows Jefferson Haddock (Bacon), who is called into an isolated witness protection property to deal with a terrifying demon, unleashing a force that threatens to end him and everything around him.”

The plot sounds eerily similar to Bacon’s recent Prime Video series The Bondsman, where he played an undead bounty hunter tasked with tracking down demons. It’d be far from the first time he’s starred in a horror film — aside from Family Movie, which he starred in with his wife and longtime creative partner Kyra Sedgwick, his recent credits also include the remake of The Toxic Avenger, Ti West’s MaXXXine, and the 2022 film They/Them

Slater, meanwhile, will be making his directorial debut with the film. He’s best known for his television work, having also penned episodes of Moon Knight and Disney’s Moon Knight series. His horror credits include the 2016 Exorcist series on Fox and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which he co-wrote with Simon Barrett and Terry Rossio.

Summoner is produced by It director Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara, along with Russell Ackerman, as well as executive producers Dan Kagan, Melissa Russell, Carl Hampe, and John Schoenfelder.

No release date has been announced for Summoner. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
