A24 and Peacock's upcoming Crystal Lake has found one of its leads, with Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me, Scooby-Doo) joining the Friday the 13th prequel series as Pamela Voorhees, the mother of masked maniac Jason, Variety has confirmed.
Brad Caleb Kane, (the upcoming It: Welcome to Derry), serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer on Crystal Lake, with Victor Miller (original Friday the 13th scribe) onboard as an executive producer along with Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, and Stuart Manashil.
Specific plot details for the upcoming Crystal Lake are still under wraps, but we won't need to remind you horror buffs that Mrs. Voorhees is the first killer in the long-running slasher franchise, before handing the reigns over to her hockey-mask wearing son.
Per Deadline, Cardellini’s Pamela is believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.
Despite a troubled history, what with losing original showrunner Bryan Fuller, directors Vincenzo Natali (Cube), Kimberly Peirce (Carrie) and Scream‘s Kevin Williamson (not to mention potentially Charlize Theron in the Mrs. Voorhees role) it looks like Crystal Lake is finally beginning to take shape.
Look out for more updates on Crystal Lake as we get them.
