Let him in now! NEON are wrapping up a year of incredible marketing for Osgood Perkins' Longlegs by launching a For Your Consideration campaign for the next Academy Awards, taking place in March 2025.
The serial killer thriller, which stars Nicolas Cage as the titular glam-rock styled maniac and Maika Monroe as FBI Agent Lee Harker, has been submitted for all categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
Alongside Cage and Monroe, Longlegs also starred Alicia Witt and Blair Underwood, who would presumably be submitted for Best Supporting Actress and Actor respectively.
An Oscar nom for Longlegs would be the cherry on top of an amazing year for the buzzy horror, which grossed over $100 million worldwide and is currently the highest grossing independent film of 2024, as well as NEON's highest grossing movie ever.
Famously, as we know all too well, horror doesn't tend to fare too well at the Oscars, with William Friedkin's The Exorcist, Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs and Jordan Peele's Get Out being the biggest success stories. Recent years have seen some particularly egregious robberies (Toni Collette in Hereditary, you will be avenged), but given Longlegs hits some similar beats as the aforementioned Hannibal Lecter feature, could this year be the year that another horror wins big at the Academy Awards? Surely at LEAST Longlegs will clock a Best Makeup and Hairstyling nom, given that Felix Fox and team made Cage almost completely unrecognizable.
Of course, Longlegs will be eligible next year for the awards that REALLY matter to horror fans – the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards, duh. While we certainly can't predict the future, it's probably safe to assume that Longlegs will nab at least a couple of nominations. Will he take home the Oscar too? Only time will tell.
