MIDNIGHT HORROR STORY: Marlon Wayans Adapting South Korean Celebrity Game Show

The series sees celebrity guests delivering the most terrifying tales they can to a voting audience.

Along with HIM and Scary Movie 6, Marlon Wayans has added another horror project to his repertoire with an upcoming U.S. adaptation of South Korean celebrity game show Midnight Horror Story.

In Midnight Horror Story, celebrity guests are tasked with delivering “chilling yet comedic stories, brought to life through immersive, cinematic reenactments”, to a hidden audience of spirits (a mix of live in-studio and virtual audience members) who will illuminate a candle whenever they find a story truly frightening. Wayans' version will feature well-known actors, although nobody has been announced just yet.

Per Deadline, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, Wayans adapts the series, which airs on MBC Korea and is currently in its fifth season, with producing partner Rick Alvarez, through their Ugly Baby Productions and Craig and Clara Plestis of Smart Dog Media (The Masked Singer).

Here's what Wayans has to say of the upcoming series:

“With the success of Scary Movie and the ‘A Haunted House’ franchise, Rick and I have always had an affinity for the mash-up of horror and comedy. This project fits perfectly in our wheelhouse,”

Deadline also note that in its native S. Korea, Midnight Horror Story is a big hit with younger viewers, who primarily watch the show on YouTube.
