If The Punisher can do anything, it’s kill — even the undead. He’s been stacked up against some of the biggest adversaries in Marvel history, and now he’s taking on his most formidable enemy yet. FANGORIA is excited to announce the publisher’s latest series, Marvel Zombies: War Zone, where Franke Castle will face off against former heroes who developed a disturbing craving for brains.

Written by Tom Waltz with art by Jaime Infante and a cover by Tony Parker, Marvel Zombies: War Zone pairs Frank Castle with your favorite street level heroes, including Luke Cage, Elektra, and Moon Knight as they battle an invasion across the five boroughs. The five-issue series’ synopsis is as follows:

A zombie outbreak has hit Manhattan and the whole city is rapidly overrun! As Earth’s Mightiest Heroes succumb to the virus, a barrier is hastily erected to protect the world—but inside the barrier, a war zone has broken out as survivors fight for their lives against the ever-growing horde. However, one man isn't looking for survival – he's after answers as he carves a bloody swathe of his own through the ravaged city. And if any zombies get in his way? Well, the PUNISHER has plenty of lead that they can eat!

“Having cut my teeth as a writer in the comics industry with my creator-owned military-horror story Children of the Grave,” says Waltz, “then transitioning into a long stint writing mutated ninjas—as well as being an unabashed fan of super heroes—getting offered the chance to write a Marvel Zombies series was an exciting opportunity to combine all three facets of my career. My first instinct was to take the popular Marvel zombie trope to the streets—and what better lens to witness it through than that of an old Marine like me: Frank Castle, the Punisher.”

The new series comes on the heels of Frank Castle making his return to the silver screen in The Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney+, where Jon Bernthal returned to play the deadly Energizer Bunny who just won’t stay down. But War Zone isn’t the only horror comic Marvel is releasing this year — a new Midnight line begins this summer, taking characters like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four and creating horrifying new origin stories for your favorite heroes.

Marvel Zombies: War Zone hits shelves in September. Check out a sneak preview below:
