Rob Savage (Host, Dashcam, The Boogeyman) is set to direct Molepeople, an upcoming horror surrounding a secret society living right underneath our feet.
Per Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, Molepeople is set to star Anthony Ramos (Twisters, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom). Nathan Elston (Succession) wrote the original script.
An official logline reads as follows:
“one man’s nightmarish descent into the abandoned tunnels beneath the streets of New York City, where a twisted society lurks.”
Deadline also let us know that Raphael Margules and J.D Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures (Woman Of The Hour) will produce alongside Rough House Pictures (Halloween).
This take on Molepeople is not to be confused with Chris Winterbauer's reported remake of Universal's The Mole People.
Producers Raphael Margules and J.D Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures had this to say of the upcoming subterranean terror:
“There’s something uniquely terrifying about urban isolation – the idea that in one of the world’s busiest cities, you could vanish without a trace. With Anthony Ramos – who’s quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most commanding leading men – alongside the legendary Ben Mendelsohn, we have the perfect contemporary combination to bring this nightmare to life.”
Embankment’s Hugo Grumbar adds:
“Molepeople fuels a modern audience with shocks and thrills, captivating, heightened feelings of fear. Rob’s direction is stylish; BoulderLight’s understanding of modern audiences is unmatched – and together the filmmakers are best in class.”
There's no news on when Molepeople will hit screens, nor whether it will collide with Savage's planned take on Langoliers, but we're extremely intrigued regardless, and will keep the updates coming.
