Legendary’s Monsterverse, the American shared cinematic universe of kaiju classics like Godzilla and King Kong, is set to expand further with a prequel to Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters series.

The as-of-now untitled spinoff series will star Monarch‘s Wyatt Russell, who will also executive produce, with Emmy-nominated screenwriter and producer Joby Harold tapped to showrun, as well as overseeing the entire MonsterVerse franchise for Apple.

Per an official press release, the spinoff series will feature both new and fan-favorite Titans, and serve as a prequel following the story of a younger Colonel Lee Shaw (Russell), an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns for its second season on February 27, 2026. Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm star, with Prey's Amber Midthunder also joining the ensemble this time around. Per an official plot logline.

“Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.”

No news yet on when the prequel series will air, but we'll keep you posted on further details including cast and plot developments. Stay tuned and for more, here's all the monster movies we're looking forward to in 2026.
