Scream queen Maika Monroe (It Follows, this year's Longlegs) is set to reunite with Watcher director Chloe Okuno for Brides, with Deadline telling us today that NEON has acquired the North American rights to the vampire horror.

Set in 1960s Italy, Brides follows Monroe’s Sally Bishop as she and her husband move to a remote villa after she suffers a nervous breakdown. There, she meets a mysterious count and they strike up a peculiar partnership, but he gets more than he bargained for when his coven of brides is upset by Sally’s feminist chaos.

According to Deadline, pre-production is now underway on Brides, and it is set to begin shooting in March 2025. NEON shared a first look picture of the script today (seen below) with a suitably bloody title. Alongside NEON, the pic will be produced by Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu through Likely Story.

Loosely inspired by the iconic tale of Dracula, Brides, which Okuno also scripted, is described as “gothic, glamorous, and gory” bringing a story that will “flip Bram Stoker’s narrative on its head, exploring the struggle between societal repression and carnal desire.”

2024 has been a hot year for Monroe, with her starring role in Osgood Perkins' serial killer thriller Longlegs cementing her as a horror icon for the ages. Another NEON joint, Longlegs is the highest grossing independent film of the year at $75 million domestically.

Maika is also set to star in They Follow, the sequel to It Follows, as well as a remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, alongside Scott Pilgrim vs. The World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Needless to say, we're very excited to learn more about Brides
