There's life in the old dog yet, clearly, as Netflix has made a deal to adapt Stephen King's classic killer canine horror Cujo into a new feature film, Deadline reports today.

No word yet on who will direct, but Deadline confirm that Roy Lee (BarbarianCompanion, the upcoming Weapons from Zach Cregger) is set to produce, with the project going out to writers immediately.

King's Cujo, released in 1981, follows the chaos of the titular rabid Saint Bernard as he wreaks havoc on the town of Castle Rock and the Trenton family in particular.

The novel was first adapted into film in 1983 by Lewis Teague, starring Dee Wallace as Trenton family matriarch Donna. Although generating mixed reviews at the time, Cujo went on to garner a cult fanbase, including King himself who has called it one of his favorite adaptations of his work.

Cujo joins the long list of upcoming King adaptations coming soon, notably Edgar Wright's The Running Man, HBO's It prequel series Welcome to Derry, Mike Flanagan's Carrie series at Amazon (plus his The Life of Chuck coming this summer) and Jack Bender's The Institute  to name but a few.

Look out for more on Netflix's Cujo as we get it.
