Comic books are a fantastic medium for telling horror stories because they're not limited by the constraints that other visual mediums have to contend with; things like budget and box office expectations. So, there's a freedom to make a story bigger and explore it in different ways that film and television often lack. That freedom means familiar sub-genres are refreshed and reinvigorated through the medium.
Horror comics are also experiencing a bit of a renaissance. There are a number of diverse and ongoing books published by major and independent companies. Those can be a little intimidating to jump into, though. So, we've prepared a list of 52 brand new horror comics launching this year that includes something for every type of horror fan.
If you want to make sure you're able to get a copy of any of the titles on this list, the best thing to do is to preorder them. You can do that by asking your local comic book shop to set up a “pull list” of the titles you're interested in. When the store receives them, they'll set them aside for you to purchase later. This ensures that retailers, who aren't able to buy every comic that is released, purchase the books their customers are interested in!

Crush Depth - March 19th
The writers of Morningstar, David' DB' Andry and Tim Daniel are teaming with artist Alex Sanchez (Godzilla Vs.The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II) for a series from Mad Cave Studios that aims to show fans of aquatic horror what the comics medium can do.
It's set in a world where climate change has devastated the surface world, and a pocket of humanity survives underneath the waves in a massive nuclear submarine. The vessel's science officer is forced to make some difficult and dangerous decisions when two brothers warring for command and an alien infiltrator put the submarine in dire peril.
Godzilla Vs. Marvel - March 26
In 2025, Godzilla will get some belated 70th birthday wishes from some friends he hasn't seen in a long time—the iconic heroes of Marvel Comics. In the '70s, Marvel published a number of Godzilla comics, and they'll revive that tradition in March with a six-issue crossover mini-series of one-shots that team the King of Monsters with different, iconic Marvel heroes.
Each issue will be set in a different era, allowing for some fun pairings. For example, current Fantastic Four writer Ryan North will team with legendary Marvel artist John Romita Jr. to kick things off with Godzilla Versus the Fantastic Four, a story that teams King Ghidorah with the ravenous, planet-devouring entity known as Galactus and Godzilla with Galactus' former herald, the Silver Surfer.
Universal Monsters: The Mummy - March 26
The Skybound arm of Image Comics has some great offerings for horror movie fans, including an official Creepshow comic and several new stories starring the iconic Universal Monsters. Their latest arrives in March when writer/artist Faith Erin Hicks (The Nameless City, The Last of Us: American Dreams) kicks off the four-issue mini-series, The Mummy.
It revisits the classic 1932 film from a different perspective; that of Helen Grosvenor (portrayed by Zita Johnson in the film) who is mysteriously drawn to an early 20th century Egyptian dig site that will soon be haunted by the titular monster.
The Kids - March 26
The titular youngsters of this Image Comics one-shot from Garth Ennis (Preacher) and artist Dalibor Talajic are most definitely not all right. Writer Joe Harris (Rock Stars) and artist Russell Olson (A Phone Call Away) are looking to change that with this new five-issue mini-series from Mad Cave Studios that combines “America's Pastime” with supernatural horror. It follows the journey of an aspiring baseball player who's given a chance to become a superstar with the advent of night baseball in the 1920s.

This series from writer Cullen Bunn, artist A.C. Zamudio (Death Follows), and published by Dark Horse gives readers a seat at a secret, sinister gaming table where magicians, demons, and demigods gamble for the fate of the world. Humanity's representative in the contest is a streetwise gambler who's never played with stakes such as these.

In titles like I Hate This Place and Where Monsters Lie, writer Kyle Starks showed off his ability to seamlessly blend horror and humor. In this mini-series from Dark Horse Comics, he teams with artist Patrick Piazzalunga (Monsters are My Business) for a story that promises more of his signature blood and belly laughs. The Ghost Whiskerers - February 5
We need comics and horror stories for all ages. The Horror Master, John Carpenter, and his wife Sandy King understand that. That's why their company, Storm King Comics, has an imprint called Storm Kids. The next release from that line will be for kids (and adults) who enjoy films like ParaNorman.
It's called The Ghost Whiskerers, written and drawn by Thomas F. Zahler (My Little Pony). It's the story of a young boy who moves into a new town and a haunted house. He also discovers that his beloved cats have the job of shepherding spirits into the afterlife—and they need his help!

This series is from DSTLRY; a newer publisher releasing individual comics in a larger, 48-page, prestige style format with thicker cover stock. It's from writer Stephanie Phillips (Grimm, Harley Quinn) and artist Marc Laming (Star Wars).
The titular inspiration is a real-life British Royal Navy research vessel that sailed around Tahiti, New Zealand, and Australia. In this modern-day story that DSTLRY describes as “perfect for fans of Lord of the Flies and Yellowjackets,” a tourism company has launched a luxury cruise recreation of the Endeavour, which quickly turns into a nightmare for seven children who suddenly find themselves alone on the titular craft and adrift at sea.
Let This One Be A Devil - February 19

Making things even more exciting is they've enlisted James Tynion IV (The Nice House on the Lake, The Department of Truth) and his independent production house, Tiny Onion, to tell these stories.
Horror fans unfamiliar with Tynion's work are in for a treat. He's one of the best and most prolific horror writers working in comics. Collaborating with Tynion on this story that delves back into the 1700s and explores the sinister and supernatural origins of the Pine Barrens' Jersey Devil are co-writer Steve Foxe (Dark X-Men) and artist Piotr Kowalski (Where Monsters Lie).
Zatanna - February 19
Zatanna is a DC character created 60 years ago who's probably best known for her fishnets, backward spell casting, and assisting Batman and the Justice League with supernatural matters. This new six-issue mini-series from DC Comics' “All In“ initiative and writer/artist Jamal Campbell (Far Sector) takes the character back to her roots as a sorceress turned stage magician. When one of her crew is kidnapped, Zatanna must contend with the machinations of a ghostly adversary and ancient curses.
Jump Scare - February 26
In 2024, Cullen Bunn (another one of comics' best and most prolific horror writers) and artist Danny Luckert showed readers that superheroes and horror stories can go together like peanut butter and chocolate with their harrowing, high-stakes graphic novel Beyond Mortal, which pitted a universe of original superheroes and villains against monstrous, eldritch, Cthulhu mythos style gods.
In 2025, they return to that world with a four-issue mini-series starring a brand new character. Her name is Jump Scare, and she's the superhero horror fans have been waiting for. That's because she dispenses her own bloody brand of Slasher style justice with the ability to conjure any weapon from any horror movie she's ever seen—and she's seen a ton of horror movies!

As the child turns 18, the mother receives what appears to be a heavenly vision calling upon her to strike down her monstrous son.
John Carpenter Presents George A. Romero’s The Amusement Park - June 10
FANGORIA readers got a preview of this graphic novel from John Carpenter’s Storm King Comics, which adapts George A. Romero’s thought to be lost 1975 film. The movie, which was later found, restored, and brought to Shudder in 2021, tells the story of an elderly man trapped in a surreal, nightmarish amusement park that dehumanizes and tortures seniors. The adaptation is written by Jeff Whitehead and illustrated by Ryan Carr (whose work appeared in the recent David Lynch tribute issue of FANGORIA).

Predator: Black, White & Blood - July 9
Marvel Comics' Black, White & Blood anthology series has taken some of the company's most exciting and deadly characters and put them in stories featuring the titular palette. This July, it's the Yautja's turn with the launch of the four-issue Predator: Black, White & Blood miniseries. Each issue features multiple stories and creative teams.
Issue #1 has three tales. Writer Joe Kelly (Deadpool) and artist Álvaro López (Beware the Planet of the Apes) take readers to the Australian frontier where a young Predator stalks a convict colony.
Writer Eliot Rahal (Cult Classic) and artist Brian Level (Spirits of Vengeance) blend sci-fi horror and sword and sorcery with a tale that introduces the Predator into Arthurian legend. Sarah Gailey (White Widow) and Fran Galan (Carnage) explore the Yautja's code of honor with a story about a Predator crashing an international weapons industry conference.
The Unchosen - July 9
The press materials for this four issue miniseries from Image Comics and writer-artist David Marquez (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) describe it as The Last of Us if the story followed the source of the destruction. From my perspective, it appears to be more of a post-apocalyptic take on Carrie in that it follows a 13-year-old girl who wakes up in a city devastated by a massive explosion she caused, and is subsequently hunted by rival forces wielding fantastic powers.
Dread the Hall H - July 16
The writers of last year’s holiday horror anthology comic, Dread the Halls, Jordan Hart (The Cabinet) and Chris Ryall (Tales of Syzpense), team up with artists Chris Anderson (Revealer), Jimmy Kucaj (Dread the Halls) and Nelson Daniel (Road Rage) for a new Image Comics one-shot collection of horror stories. This one is set in the titular gargantuan auditorium of the San Diego Convention Center, which is best known for hosting big announcement panels at the annual San Diego Comic-Con.
Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe - July 16
Earlier this year, Marvel Comics and Toho International kicked off a collaboration that saw Godzilla clash with Marvel’s iconic heroes in a series of one-shots that happened at different points in those heroes’ histories.
On July 16, that partnership continues with the launch of this five-issue miniseries from writer Gerry Duggan (Falling In Love on the Path to Hell) and artist Javier Garron (The Uncanny X-Men) that finds the King of Monsters coming for the entire titular Universe. Heroes and villains will be forced to work side-by-side to survive and try to end Godzilla’s international and interdimensional rampage.
Texarcanum - July 23
In this four-issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, by writer Christopher Monfette (Star Trek: Picard) and artist Miguel Martos, a cowboy arcanist hunts America’s heartland in search of ghosts, gods, demons, horrors, and tall tales.
Look Into My Eyes - July 23
In this five-issue miniseries, writer/artist Rubine (The Expanse: Dragon Tooth) and Mad Cave Studios will transport readers to the seemingly quiet, small town of Cravenwood, where a conspiracy-obsessed teen will discover something sinister bubbling below the town’s seemingly innocent surface. Her search for a missing classmate leads to a mysterious social app that seems to be taking over the town, and many-eyed monstrosities lurking in the shadows.
Making the horror more immersive will be the inclusion of QR codes embedded throughout the issue. Scanning them will take readers to the protagonist’s social media page and grant access to secret documents and clues that delve deeper into the lore of Cravenwood.
Godzilla Kai Sei Era - July 23
In the debut issue of this series, IDW lays the cornerstone for their new shared universe of Godzilla comics. The book, written by Tim Seeley (Revival) and illustrated by Nikola Cizmesija (Batman and Robin), is set in a world where a 1954 experiment with a mysterious energy source awakened Godzilla and a multitude of monstrous, immortal kaiju.
In the present day, nations are still struggling with how to address the kaiju threat, except America, which has chosen to wage an all-out war against them. Their secret weapon? A young boy who can tap into the same enigmatic energy source that empowers Godzilla.
Werewolf By Night: Blood Moon Rise - July 30
Marvel Comics' Werewolf By Night has a storied history that goes back 52 years, but this one shot, written by Michael Giacchino (the director of Disney+’s 2022 Werewolf by Night special) and featuring art by David Messina (Ultimate Spider-Man), which pits their lycanthropic protagonist against Dracula is designed to serve as a jumping on point for readers wanting to get to know or get reacquainted with the character. It also features a backup story by Jason Loo (writer of the current Werewolf By Night: Red Band series) that celebrates the character's history.
Orla - August 6
The unique nature of comics means they can deliver genre combinations you never knew you wanted. In Orla, a new miniseries from Mad Cave Studios, writer John Lees (The Nasty) and artist Sally Cantirino (I Walk With Monsters) do just that with a story that’s one part romcom and one part creature feature.
The titular character is a woman looking for love and trying to satiate the hunger of the monstrous man-eating entity that dwells within her. So, she decides to use her monster to save other women by eliminating the scummiest men from the dating pool.
Godzilla: Escape the Dead Zone - August 6
In the second installment of IDW’s shared Kai-Sai Era of ongoing Godzilla comics, writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan (Kill Your Darlings) and artist Pablo Tunica (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) take readers inside the titular place. It takes place off the Pacific Northwest in a region that was cordoned off after a devastating Godzilla attack, and there are rumors that it’s home to creatures that are half-human and half-kaiju.
Predator Kills the Marvel Universe - August 13
After pitting the Predators against Wolverine, Black Panther, and Spider-Man, writer Benjamin Percy re-teams with artist Marcelo Ferreira (Predator Versus Spider-Man) for a new miniseries that unleashes the might of the Yautja on the entire Marvel Universe. In the story, the Predator King leads a massive hunt against the heroes and villains of Earth, and this time they’re armed with an arsenal made from one of the strongest metals in Marvel’s shared universe; Vibranium.
In the press materials for the series, Percy promised, “That title? It's not misdirection. This one's gonna hurt. Your favorite heroes and villains will fall — even as others rise up against this extinction-level event.”
Event Horizon: Dark Descent - August 20
Director Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 film Event Horizon is a movie that developed a large cult following over the years. On August 20, IDW, writer Christian Ward (Blood Stained Teeth) and artist Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance) will reward the film’s fandom with this brand new story that brings space horror to the magical medium of comics, where budget constraints do not apply! It’s a prequel tale that chronicles the horrors the ship’s original crew confronted after they activated their craft’s experimental gravity drive.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds: The Seeds of Salvation - August 27
Star Trek is one of the biggest science fiction franchises of all time, but over the course of its nearly 60-year history, it’s tackled horror a multitude of times and created some genuinely unsettling stories. In this miniseries from IDW, writer Robbie Thompson (Supernatural) and artist Travis Mercer (Batman/Superman World’s Finest) plunge the crew of the titular show into a sub-genre Star Trek, and the medium of comics is well suited to tackle Lovecraftian horror.
The series begins with the USS Enterprise searching for a research team and instead finding an old robot that urges them to descend to the depths of the planet below, where ancient and monstrous life forms lurk.
Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man - August 27
The Skybound imprint of Image Comics continues its collection of miniseries starring Universal’s iconic monsters with this four-issue comic that brings the homicidal and megalomaniacal exploits of Jack Griffin (the protagonist of director James Whale’s classic 1933 film) to comics. James Tynion IV (Exquisite Corpses) is writing the series, and DaNi (The Low Low Woods) is providing art.
